María Mercedes Di Virgilio

María Mercedes Di Virgilio's research focuses on the residential mobility processes of working-class and middle-class families. As part of her doctoral thesis, she studied housing strategies and residential trajectories. She is interested in urban policies and their relationship with spatial mobility. Currently, she is developing other research areas, such as the relationship between different forms of mobility and the connections between spatial mobility processes, social mobility, and territory. She also works on urban change processes and their relationship with demographic changes.
The project
Title: (Im)migrations et mobilités d’hier et d’aujourd’hui dans la région métropolitaine de Buenos Aires et Mendoza
"The aim of the stay is to explore and apply a multi-local and multi-scalar approach to understanding how migratory dynamics contribute to shaping regional territories. This will involve studying the spatial practices — including migration, residential mobility, and daily travel — of migrant populations in peri-urban areas over time, from the early 20th century to the present.
The stay will thus help to produce knowledge that is both comparative and transferable, enabling the study of rural–urban dynamics and their transformations across different latitudes and regional contexts, through the lens of mobility."
Hosting institution: Migrinter (University of Poitiers).
