Fabiola Maureira, psychologist, master’s in organizational Behavior and Development and PhD, in Ergonomics she works as a researcher and assistant teacher in the Ergonomics Department of the University of Concepción in Chile since 1991. For more than 20 years she had been devoted to applied research, with the aim to improve working conditions for people who are exposed to demanding physical and mental conditions in complex dynamics environments such as fighting forest fires. Active scientific exchange with the Conservatoire Nationale des Arts et Métiers (Cnam) with reserchers in Ergonomics from other French universities and with the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Officiers Sapeurs-Pompiers (ENSOSP) in France.

The project

Title: Comparative analysis of the management of resources mobilized for forest fire fighting in Chile and the crisis management plan implemented in France

"In recent years Chile has become increasingly vulnerable to forest fires due to the global climate crisis with a real impact in the regions that are affected by these events (loss of hectares of forest land, endemic heritage, populated areas as well as human lives). Management requires the participation of many actors who intervene at different levels, on the ground, remotely, in a dynamic of close interdependence to face complex dynamic environments. Among them, the population has become a key role in the prevention, monitoring and adequate management of an imminent threat that affects its environment. The interest of this research is to analyze in a comparative way the resource management mechanisms to face crisis situations implemented in France, compared to the management of complex events such as mega-fires in Chile. My work is developed with the collaboration of researchers from the École Nationale Supérieure des Officiers Sapeurs-Pompiers (ENSOSP) as well as those from the Conservatoire nationale des arts et métiers (Cnam). These institutions have a lot of experience in crisis management as well as in reflective methodological tools for improving the skills of the actors involved."
