The project
Title: Lifetime and Intergenerational Labor Market Transitions in MENA: Exploring the Impact of Climate Shocks
"This project investigates how climate shocks shape labor market dynamics over the life course and across generations in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. Using rich household and labor panel surveys matched with climate data, the study examines how rising temperatures and changing rainfall patterns influence shifts in employment—particularly movement out of agriculture, the region’s most climate-vulnerable sector. It distinguishes between lifetime and intergenerational labor mobility and explores how climate risks impact men and women differently. The project also looks at how education, urban exposure, and wealth affect people’s ability to adapt to climate stress. It explores how people move between jobs in different sectors over time and investigates how climate shocks can deepen social and economic inequalities across generations. The findings aim to support the development of inclusive and climate-resilient labor policies in MENA."
