The project

Title: Genesis, hierarchization and diversification of sociology in Brazil (1990-2016)

"The general problem addressed in this research is based on the formulation that the configuration of the university field and science depends on the structure of the distribution of the various powers and principles of legitimization that compete for the definition of scientific activity and the principle of legitimate hierarchization (Bourdieu, 1984, 1989). The research is devoted to examining the social and institutional conditions for pursuing academic careers in sociology, the empirical sample is made up of lecturers from 53 master's and doctorate courses in 2016, i.e. a total of 931 individuals. The analysis focuses on a set of fundamental indicators, including :

  1. the different periods of postgraduate courses;
  2. national and international circulation of researchers;
  3. hierarchies of academic excellence resulting from institutionalized assessment processes
  4. the profile of teaching staff.

Taken together, these elements help us to understand the structure of careers in sociology in Brazil."
