Ricardo G. Abduca

Ricardo G. Abduca is an anthropologist, Associate Professor at the Universidad Nacional de Río Negro, and holds a PhD in Anthropology from the University of Buenos Aires.

His research is grounded in extensive fieldwork conducted among indigenous Andean peasants in north-western Argentina and Bolivia, in the Chaco region, as well as within networks of waste pickers in Buenos Aires.

The project

Title: Le chemin de Mauss vers les théories du don et de la réciprocité. À la recherche de l’évidence documentaire 

"The primary aim of this project is to verify and further develop the periodisation criteria provisionally established in our previous research on the trajectory of anthropological gift theory. That earlier work was carried out in the context of a new Spanish edition — including translation, introduction, and annotations — of Essai sur le don by Marcel Mauss, alongside around fifteen other Maussian texts.

A second objective is to gather relevant documentation and bibliography on three issues addressed in the appendices of our edition. The first concerns the concept of nexum, arguably the least studied and commented upon aspect of Essai sur le don. Next in priority is the notion of hau, which has received considerably more scholarly attention.

A third goal of the project is to gain a better understanding of the political and historical context of Mauss’s political writings, in preparation for a forthcoming Spanish edition of these texts."
