Mohammed Abdelrahim Jazam

Mohammed Abdelrahim Jazam, Yemeni archaeologist, researcher and writer, was born in the Taez region of Yemen. He studied at university in Sanaa, graduating in 1985. He worked for seven years in education, before being transferred to the General Authority of Antiquities in Sana'a. During this period, he wrote the weekly archaeological section of the official state newspaper, Al-Thawra. Later, he joined the General Authority for the Preservation of Historic Cities, of which he was one of the founders. He also worked for the Yemeni Ministry of Culture, where he helped edit the magazines Al-Kalil and Al-Thaqafa. His writings were regularly published in these and other magazines.

In 1993, he joined the Centre Français d'Études Yéménites as a researcher. This center was later renamed the Institut Français d'Archéologie et de Sciences Sociales (CEFAS). He remained in Sana'a despite the war in Yemen in 2015, while the center was moved to Kuwait and renamed Institut Français de Recherche sur la Péninsule Arabique. Mohammed Abdelrahim Jazam also obtained a master's degree from Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne in 2010.

The project

Mohammed Abdelrahim Jazam is invited to France with the support of CEFREPA and the French Embassy in Yemen, to give a series of lectures and take part in seminars at ArScAN (Archéologies et Sciences de l'Antiquité) and IISMM (Institut d'Etudes de l'Islam et des Sociétés du Monde Musulman - EHESS-CNRS).
