Miguel Serna

Miguel Serna is a full professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of the Republic (Montevideo, Uruguay) and holds a PhD in Political Science from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil). He is a Level II researcher with the National Research System (Uruguay). His publications focus on the left and right in the Southern Cone countries and Brazil, as well as on comparative studies of political elites and entrepreneurs in Uruguay and across Latin America. He is director of the Working Group of the Latin American Council of Social Sciences and serves on the board of the Latin American Sociological Association (ALAS).

The project

Title: Changes in Political and Economic Power Groups: Dialogues between French Political Sociology and Latin America

"What new ruling groups are emerging in the spheres of political and economic power? What are the relationships between economic and political elites? This line of research aims to analyse the evolution of recruitment, composition, and interactions among political and economic elites over the past few decades in Uruguay, from a comparative perspective across Latin America."
