Matias Landau

Matías Landau holds a PhD in Sociology (EHESS) and a PhD in Social Sciences (UBA). He is currently a researcher at Conicet, based at the Instituto de Investigaciones Gino Germani (IIGG-UBA). He is a professor at UBA, UNL, and IDES/UNGS. He specializes in the study of socio-historical transformations of government, political elites, and citizenship in Argentina.

The project

Title: Political elites, hierarchies, and the common good

"The discussion on the "common" and the "common good" allows us to question models of community and society, and to propose different conceptions of the social, economic, and political ties that unite individuals and groups. In this process, positions are classified and ranked according to each member's contribution to collective construction. In the context of the economic, political, and social transformations that Argentina has been undergoing in recent years, we question how the "common" and the "common good" are contested. During my stay in Paris, we will explore various aspects: the relationship between political elites and the common good, the novelty that the rise of the far right has brought to the structuring of public debate, the growth of anti-state discourse, and the current challenges of creating and reproducing a common urban space in a context of social and spatial fragmentation."
