The project

Title: Sociological study of the life trajectories of young people in the Démos project

"The aim of this study is to analyze the life course of young people who took part in the second and third stages of the Démos project (a music and orchestral education scheme with a social vocation, run by the Cité de la Musique - Philharmonie de Paris) between 2013 and 2015. These young people are now aged 16 and 20. They're at a pivotal age in their emotional and educational lives, an age when they need to make choices for the future, an age when they need to capitalize on what they've learned in the past. Between eight and five years after their participation in the end-of-year concert, the big event that crowns the workshops' three years: has the Demos experience opened up new perspectives for these young people? Has learning an instrument multiplied their life chances? The main aim of the study is to find out how a music teaching project with a social vocation plays a part in the secondary socialization of young people and in the acquisition of new social, artistic or professional skills. First, the aim is to find out about the "post-Demos" lives of the young participants in the teaching project: their educational, artistic or professional paths, as well as their projects and how they project themselves into the future. Secondly, the aim is to analyze the way in which the Demos Project intervenes (or not) in the individual choices of these young people."
