Acteurs, espaces, œuvres, discours : quelle sociologie pour l'étude du théâtre argentin ?

Presentation of a research project as part of the "Jeudis de la Maison Suger", a residents' research seminar.

Florencia Dansilio holds a doctorate in the sociology of the arts from the Université Sorbonne Nouvelle and is a former post-doctoral fellow at the Centre de Recherche sur les Arts et le Langage at the EHESS. She specializes in artistic practices and their relationship to politics and the urban dimension, particularly the performing arts and music. Her main research interests are post-dictatorship Argentine theater, the circulation of avant-gardes in the Atlantic space and the configuration of alternative artistic circuits in various cities (Buenos Aires, Montevideo, New York).

She is a research associate at the Centre de Recherche et Documentation sur les Amériques and a lecturer at the Universidad de la República (Montevideo, Uruguay). Florencia Dansilio is currently completing a second post-doctorate at the Laboratoire de Changement Social et Politique of the Université Paris Cité, in partnership with the Démos - Cité de la Musique - Philharmonie de Paris project. She is also a director and playwright.

Presentation of the project

"The aim of this conference-dialogue is to present and discuss two recent works on Latin American theater and its relationship to the social context of production. The first is Le théâtre argentin post-dictature: sociologie d'une révolution artistique (L'Harmattan, 2020) and the second is the collective work Le théâtre face aux dictatures: luttes, traces, mémoires (Les Solitaires Intempestifs, 2022). On the one hand, we will analyze the phenomenon of the renewal of Argentine theater after the last military dictatorship, and compare it with other theaters in southern Latin America. On the other hand, it will be an opportunity to reflect on a sociology of theater that can dialogue with the specificity of the artistic objects it studies, and, conversely, identify how art, and more particularly theater in its specificity, can contribute to nourishing the sociological gaze."
