The project

Title: The challenges facing Brazilian and French sociologies in the context of globalization (1990-2015)

"Interactions between French and Brazilian sociologists have a long history, which is primarily linked to the strong presence of French sociologists in Brazilian research debates and practices for decades, like Alain Touraine's or Pierre Bourdieu's school, and Brazilian academics' interest in exchanges with the French social sciences. This relationship has been facilitated by the cultural and linguistic proximity of France and Brazil, and by the position of both disciplines in the international field. During the last period, these relationships, both institutional and interpersonal, have continued to multiply, and those concerned have become aware of the importance of common strategies in the context of globalization. The present project aims to advance these strategies by combining an “institutional” dimension (backed by two representative national associations) and scientific (with a research project mobilizing and promoting recent scientific innovations in the historical sociology of disciplines). It was around the national associations and, more broadly, the institutional dimensions of SHS research that discussions converged and led to the development of this project."
