Since the 2000s, and especially following the publication of Palestine by American-Maltese author Joe Sacco, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has been increasingly represented in comics and graphic novels. Written in English, French, Arabic and Hebrew, these works engage with the social reality of both Palestinians and Israelis. Their importance stems from the fact that they intervene in "conflicting national narratives". This research project is therefore situated in the interdisciplinary field between history and literature/visual arts, a field that Ammar Kandeel began with work on the links between the historiography of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, on one hand, and, on the other, several arts such as photography, cinema and stand-up comedy. The study of comics holds great potential for reflecting on the writing of an indivisible history of the memories of the two peoples in question. It is part of a growing interest in French-language academic research into the history of the Arab world in comics, particularly French-language comics.

Histoires de mobilité
The FMSH and its partners offer mobility grants for post-doctoral research stays in the humanities and social sciences. Every year, the Atlas programme enables researchers to spend 1 to 3 months in France or abroad conducting field research.
Histoires de mobilité is a podcast series in which researchers who have taken part in the programme share their international research experiences.
