« ECOHISMA Eco-histoire de la conservation marine au Maghreb : discours, pratiques et savoirs, XIXe-XXIe siècle »

Laureate project for 2024 under the call for proposals ‘International Networks in the Social Sciences and Humanities – Climate and Environment’: The ECOHISMA network, ‘Eco-history of Marine Conservation in the Maghreb’, aims to foster a shared, interdisciplinary exploration of the discourses, practices and knowledge upon which marine resource management systems in the Maghreb have been built from the mid-19th century to the present day.

This network project is supported by a team of European and North African researchers, whose work lies at the intersection of disciplines within the social sciences and humanities and the marine sciences. Scheduled to run for two years (2025–2026), the activities of the ECOHISMA network aim to pool research data and survey methodologies, to disseminate its members’ work to the research community and the general public, and to train young researchers from both the northern and southern shores of the Mediterranean.
