Which food security in India ? Economic, socio-political and environmental dilemmas. A comparison with (Ile-de-)France

""

This is an account of a seminar comparing food security in India with the situation in France and Ile-de-France (Paris region) [Nov. 15th, 2013, Paris]. It highlights the heavy pressure on agricultural land and the still prevailing food insecurity in India. Voluntarist policies were implemented after Independence, but they were founded on a paradigm that today seems out of steam. Fair trade and organic farming, as well as inclusion of farms into agro-business chain, are solutions for some regions, products and farms. The various types of regulation and heritageisation of agriculture in Ile-de-France could bring new ideas to Indian decision makers – while India brings food for thought to French stakeholders.
