The online journal Trouble dans les collections focuses on the contentious and contested history of a number of museum, institutions and collections in Africa and Europe, and discusses their possible futures.

Attached to the Théodore Monod African Art Museum in Dakar (IFAN Cheikh Anta Diop), this journal fits into a local, as well as an international, context. It intends to participate in the reinterpretations of colonial collections which re-examine the history of knowledge and heritage practices since the colonial period. This multilingual journal, accessible online for free, is open to a multiplicity of voices and positions, beyond the academic sphere or museums.

Its first four issues are part of the project "Trouble dans les collections. Trajectories of ideas, knowledge and objects between museums in Europe and Africa” led by Lotte Arndt, Emmanuelle Chérel, El Hadji Malick Ndiaye and Marian Nur Goni, funded in 2020 and 2021 by the Fondation Maison des sciences de l'homme. An editorial committee is being set up to develop this publication in the years to come.

This project is attached to the CRENAU (UMR 1563 CNRS) of the École Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Nantes as part of its agreement with the École des Beaux-Arts de Nantes Saint-Nazaire.
