The FMSH is pleased to host the conference “Institutional Genes: Origins of China’s Institutions and Totalitarianism”, presented by Professor Chenggang Xu (Stanford University), with a discussion led by Professor Mehrdad Vahabi (Université Sorbonne Paris Nord). The event is organised by the international research network "Modernity, Transition and Reform in China".

Speakers

Professor Chenggang XU is a senior research fellow at the Stanford Center on China’s Economy and Institutions at Stanford University. He holds a PhD in economics from Harvard University and has taught for many years at the London School of Economics, the University of Hong Kong, as well as at several other world-renowned academic institutions. A recipient of multiple prestigious awards in economics, he is also a member of numerous influential international economic committees.

Mehrdad VAHABI is an economist and a professor at Sorbonne Paris North University. His research focuses on political economy, capitalism, and political governance.
