The project

Titles: Aging, Debt, and Care: An Analysis of the Case of France from a Gender Perspective

"This international research project is part of a broader postdoctoral study (developed at the State University of Campinas) examining care, population aging, and indebtedness. The process termed the financialization of old age (Debert & Felix, 2024) focuses primarily on debt related to care expenditures in a broad sense—self-care, caregiving, and receiving care. This issue is relevant to the French public debate, as austerity policies have reduced the state’s role in providing social services. The project aims to collect data in France to establish a comparative study with Brazil, considering both gender and age perspectives. In Brazil, the initial two phases of the project have already been conducted. The first involved interviews with elderly women, while the second consisted of a literature review. In France, the study will conduct field interviews with women from the same sample group used in Brazil, carry out literature research, and interview policymakers."
