Ivo Da Silva Junior

Ivo Da Silva Junior is professor of Contemporary Philosophy at the Federal University of São Paulo since 2006. He is President of the Institute for Advanced and Convergent Studies (IEAC), and of the Federal University of São Paulo since 10/02/2020. He was Head of the Philosophy Department at Federal University of São Paulo, from 18/05/2017 to 08/06/2020.

The project

Title: Nietzsche: criticism and new formulation of philosophical “grand narratives"

"The aim of this project is to examine the conception of philosophical “grand narratives” in the light of Nietzschean thought. This project will be developed in three stages. First, I intend to examine the extent to which a discourse on the end of philosophical “big narratives” can be attributed to Nietzsche. First, I intend to examine the extent to which a discourse on the end of philosophical “big narratives” can be attributed to Nietzsche. Seeking to identify the precise targets of his criticisms, I hope to show that they are aimed at “narratives” based on “modern ideas”, such as the notion of progress. The focus of his criticism would be the teleological character of the concept of Universal History, whether Kantian or Hegelian in nature. Next, I'll try to show that Nietzsche opposes the “grand narratives” he criticizes with another “grand narrative”, namely a worldview based on vitalism. The concept of aristocratic individualism is surprising at first glance, he would seek to demystify the “grand narratives” of Kant's and Hegel's philosophy of history, and propose another that would be no less totalizing. Finally, I hope to examine the appropriations of the Nietzschean “grand narrative” in today's philosophical context."
