The project
Title: World Heritage Expertise in Polycentric Governance: Adapting to the Age of Consultocracy
"This project is dedicated to a comprehensive analysis of the diverse qualifications required for the recognition of experts in World Cultural Heritage within polycentric governance systems. The study explores the core principles that underpin the development of expertise in this particular field. The 1972 Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage is unquestionably one of the most prominent and recognized legal instruments in representing Natural and Cultural Heritage sites worldwide (UNESCO 1972). The World Heritage List it established has become one of UNESCO's most popular programs (Schmitt 2011). The fundamental aim of this Convention is to identify, safeguard, and conserve natural and cultural heritage around the globe (Schmitt & Schweitzer 2007). The Faro Convention on the Value of Cultural Heritage for Society in 2005 marked an advancement towards rethinking the roles necessary in heritage preservation to realize the objectives of inclusivity, effective dissemination, and education. Nonetheless, this shift towards participation has yet to be entirely successful in bridging the gap between heritage experts and communities or Indigenous populations from colonized areas of the world."
