The project
Title: K.N.Batyushkov: Poet and Critic in the Literary Periodicals of the Early 19th Century
"This research focuses on the poems and critical essays of K.N. Batyushkov published in literary periodicals during the first decades of the nineteenth century. Particular attention is given to journals edited by members of the Free Society of Lovers of Literature, Science and the Arts, including The Journal of Russian Literature, The Lover of Literature, and The Northern Herald, as well as to The Dramatic Herald, Son of the Fatherland, Amphion, and The Herald of Europe, to which Batyushkov was a regular contributor both before and after 1812. The study specifically examines the aesthetic, philosophical, and moral dimensions of Batyushkov’s work as both poet and critic. Its objective is to analyze the authorized publications that appeared during the poet’s lifetime in the literary periodicals of the early nineteenth century, considering their dynamic relationship to the events of his life and to the broader historical context in which he lived and participated. This project seeks to shed light on Batyushkov’s role in shaping the literary culture of his time and on his contribution to the development of Russian poetry and literary criticism during the Golden Age of Russian literature."
