Fragkiskos Kalavasis

Fragkiskos Kalavasis is professor of Didactics of Mathematics and Educational Engineering, University of the Aegean, Faculty of Human Sciences, Rhodes, Greece and associate researcher at the Laboratoire Larequoi UVSQ, Université Paris-Saclay. His research focuses on the relationship between the modes of presentation and understanding of logical-mathematical concepts in the context of complex didactic situations seen in permanent interaction with the systems of school, family and city/society.
The project
Title: Systemic links between the interdisciplinary approach to learning mathematics and the complexity of school units as learning organisations.
"The research project involves studying the interactions between the organizational model of educational units and their pedagogical governance, and the model of an interdisciplinary approach to logical-mathematical learning and the development of a scientific culture. In this context, I have established a long-standing collaboration with historian and mathematician Jean Dhombres (former Director of Research at the Alexandre Koyré Institute, CNRS), as well as a deep and interdisciplinary collaboration with Professor Annie Bartoli, Professor Christophe Assens and their team at the LAREQUOI Management Research Laboratory at the University of Paris Saclay, UVSQ, of which I have been appointed associate researcher since 2019. The aim is to further investigate the interdisciplinary connections and complexity features that link models of mathematical knowledge construction and learning to the systemic model of the school unit. In particular, I will focus on the impact of the new hybrid conditions imposed on educational conditions imposed on educational systems since the pandemic, and I'll take a closer look at mathematical learning processes when schools are organized in networks. Given the educational system's transition to digital technology and the use of forms of Artificial Intelligence in didactic conditions, these dimensions and their interactions will guide my current research to determine the complex link between educational continuity and context and situation."
