Fernanda Beigel

Fernanda Beigel is sociologist and PhD in Social Sciences since 2001. She pursued her postdoctoral studies at the Centre de Sociologie Européenne (EHESS, Paris). She was Chair of the Advisory Committee for Open Science at UNESCO (2020-2021) and Chair of the Argentinian National Committee for Open Science since 2021. She is Principal Researcher at CONICET, she is Head Professor at the National University of Cuyo (UNCuyo) and Director of the Research Center on the International Circulation of Knowledge (CECIC) https://cecic.fcp.uncuyo.edu.ar/ in Mendoza, Argentina.

The project

Title: Open Access and publishing asymmetries : a comparative study of APC charges in Latin America and Africa 

"This project is the second phase (qualitative) of a project funded by GRIP during 2022-2023 which consisted of an international survey on APC practices delved in Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Senegal and South Africa. This survey allowed us to have statistical description of the perceptions and experiences of the researcher bodies from these 5 countries. Several comparative studies were made and the final results of this first stage will be presented in Paris in march 28-29, 2024. As a second phase of this project, to be developed during 2024, we intend to complement this survey with a qualitative approach, particularly through focus groups and interviews."
