We have never left the state of nature and never will, because nothing that exists can escape nature, and the state of nature is not immutable: these are Patrick Pharo's postulates. It is therefore up to us to choose respectful production methods, non-addictive consumption and rewarding social relationships.
Patrick Pharo is a French sociologist. He was Director of Research at the Centre national de recherche scientifique (CNRS) and a member of the Centre de recherche Sens Éthique Société (CERSES).
As a representative of ethnomethodology in France alongside Louis Quéré and Bernard Conein, he has developed a sociology of morality, justice and the ‘civil bond’. He is particularly interested in the ethics of dependency, based on research into pleasure and addiction and public policy on drugs.
