Designed to enhance the intra-European circulation of researchers in Asian studies, the IIAS-FMSH partnership aims to decompartmentalise knowledge production and diversify perspectives, offering our fellows an excellent opportunity for knowledge exchange, cooperation and networking.

An intra-European fellowship

The combined fellowship therefore provides fellows with a one-year research experience in an internationally renowned area studies institute (IIAS) in Leiden (The Netherlands) and a two-month visiting stint at the Fondation Maison des Sciences de l’Homme (FMSH) in Paris (France).

Anyone applying for a IIAS fellowship can simultaneously apply for an extra period of 2 months at the FMSH in Paris. If the candidate is interested in this option, he/she has to indicate it on the IIAS Fellowship Application Form. Applications for selected IIAS fellows who have simultaneously applied for an extra period of 2 months at the FMSH, will be further evaluated by a joint selection committee. Only a few 2-month fellowship are available per year.

The FMSH provides a monthly grant of €2000 covering travel and insurance costs, accommodation and living expenses in France. Fellows will reside in the very central and historical Maison Suger, the research residence of the FMSH dedicated to scholars in the humanities and social sciences invited by French institutions.

The applications are managed directly by our partner the IIAS. Therefore, to apply for a IIAS and IIAS+FMSH fellowship please visit the IIAS website.

The FMSH announces the publication of the IIAS+FMSH call for fellowship in her monthly newsletter. Subscribe here to be timely informed about this opportunity.
