FMSH receives official accreditation for 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference 2025

The Foundation has been officially accredited for the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC), which will take place in Nice from 9 to 13 June 2025. This accreditation gives the foundation stakeholder status in UNOC 2025, enabling it to participate in international discussions on ocean issues.
Co-organised by the governments of France and Costa Rica, the third United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC 3) will be held from 9 to 13 June 2025. Its main theme, “Accelerating action and mobilizing all actors to conserve and sustainably use the ocean“, aims to support urgent action for the conservation and sustainable use of the ocean, seas and marine resources, in line with Sustainable Development Goal 14.
This global event will bring together key stakeholders, including governments, UN agencies, international institutions, NGOs, civil society, the scientific community, the private sector, indigenous peoples, and local communities. In addition to a plenary session gathering all 193 UN Member States, Ocean Action Panels will showcase commitments from various actors and propose concrete solutions for ocean protection.
As the Foundation launches its major new program dedicated to ocean-related issues, this accreditation represents a significant opportunity to contribute to global discussions. As an accredited stakeholder, the Foundation will actively participate in debates and provide valuable insights into international policies for ocean protection.
The FMSH aims to highlight the crucial and unique contributions of the humanities and social sciences make to the protection of the oceans, and to encourage international cooperation.
A key element of this commitment is the Foundation’s position paper, which outlines its vision and proposed actions for a sustainable ocean future. This document is available for consultation and serves as a roadmap for its engagement.
Contribution to the UN Ocean Conference - August 2024
The ocean is a critical issue for the future of humanity and the planet. The humanities and social sciences play a key role in raising awareness, deepening knowledge, and developing concrete solutions for ocean sustainability and conservation—an essential focus of the 2025 United Nations Ocean Conference in Nice.
In this context, the Foundation is making a concrete commitment to funding research in the humanities and social sciences dedicated to the ocean and to building a global network of public and private institutions to amplify the impact of this work.
