Fatima Ben Slimane

Invited researcher at Maison Suger Stay in France : 1st- 31th of March, 2022

Fatma Ben Slimane is a professor of modern history at the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences in Tunis. She obtained a master's degree in history and geography from the École Normale Supérieure in Tunis and an aggregation in history from the Faculty of Sciences of Tunis in 1991. Her thesis defense (in Arabic) focused on “The formation of the territory of the province of Tunis during the Ottoman era”. She collaborated in research and supervision work within the “DIRASET Maghreb Studies” Laboratory.

Research theme

Fatma Ben Slimane participates in the EHESS Visiting Professors Program, on the proposal of Augustin Jomier (INALCO) within the framework of the IISMM chair. She will lead a cycle of 4 conferences:

  • “Territory and border: formation of the province of Tunis”
  • "How and where to classify the Ottoman Empire? the question of archives in Tunisia in the second half of the 19th century”
  • “The inventory of beylical archives in Ottoman Tunisia in 1874”
  • "The fabric of social sciences in Tunisia: research under constraints"
