Dimo Cheshmedehiev was born on 19 April 1960 in Sadovo in the Plovdiv region, Bulgaria. In 1982 he obtained a degree in history, with specialization in archaeology at the University of Veliko Tarnovo "St. Cyril and Methodius"; then a PhD at the Institute of History of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in 1992. During his career he was a partner in the system of state archives and museums in Bulgaria (1982-1985); then Assistant Professor of Medieval History at the Institut of histoiry, Bas (1985-2005); Associate Professor at the University of Plovdiv (2005-); 2010-2016 - Professor of medieval history of Bulgaria at the Cеntre d'études "Cyrilе et Méthode" dе Bas (2016-).
