The project
Title: Colonialists, Republicans and 'Communists' in the Atlantic World. Towards a New History of the French ‘48 in the Rio de la Plata (1848-1850).
"The project explores the construction of transnational political connections between the Río de la Plata and France in the context of the 1848 cycle of European liberal revolutions, with a particular focus on the exchange networks established between Montevideo and Paris.
The research is based on the hypothesis that the proclamation of the French Republic in February 1848, and the subsequent radicalisation during the June Days uprising in Paris, had a significant impact on the Río de la Plata. It argues that these events contributed to the emergence of an Atlantic political space through which letters, diplomatic agents, conspirators, militiamen, and exiles from diverse political traditions circulated."
