The project

Titre : Human sciences in combat: dissemination, publication, internationalization (1920-1945)

" The aim of this project is to study the social and intellectual conditions surrounding collective publications in the humanities in France during the first half of the 20th century. This project focuses in particular on a collective publication edited by Georges Dumas (1866-1946), published at two different times during this period: the Traité de Psychologie (Treatise on Psychology) in 1923-1924, and the Nouveau Traité de Psychologie (New Treatise on Psychology) between 1930 and 1948. The starting point for this research is the assumption that this encyclopedic publication played a key role in the controversies surrounding the legitimate definition of several sciences and scientific approaches. Given that the publication of collective works is an expression of academic cultures and forms of sociability, the hypothesis guiding this analysis is that the positions defended by the 35 contributors to the two treatises correspond to their social and intellectual trajectories. "
