  Hanna Sonkajärvi has a PhD (2006) in History and Civilization from the European University Institute, Florence. Early Modern Historian, she worked as Assistant Professor at the University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany, and held various post-doctoral research grants before obtaining a tenured position as Professor of Legal History at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) in 2015.
