Gilson Schwartz has a degree in Economics and Social Sciences from the University of São Paulo - USP (1980, 1981), a PhD in Economics from the University of Campinas (1993) and has conducted activities as a visiting professor at the Institute of Advanced Studies of USP (1999-2005 and in 2017). Since 2005, he has been a professor at the Department of Cinema, Radio and Television of the School of Communication and Arts of USP and since 2012 he has been a professor of the interdisciplinary postgraduate program Humanities, Rights and New Legitimities at the Faculty of Philosophy, Literature and Humanities of USP. In 2006 he created the concept of "iconomy" and since 2017 he has been collaborating on this topic at Radio USP. In March 2023, he is a visiting professor at CARISM: Center for Interdisciplinary Analysis and Research on Media, University of Paris 2, Panthéon-Assas.
