Eva Adam

Eva Adam Picazo is a lecturer and researcher at the Polytechnic University of Valencia in Spain. She is a member of several international research groups, including DI-AAL (Dimension and Active Learning in Intercultural Language), ReALL (Research in Affective Language Learning), and MusicLang, a project of the Spanish Government’s Ministry of Research, I+D+I (Musical aptitude, reading fluency, and intercultural literacy of European university students). She also participates in MultiLits (Multiliteracies for Adult at-risk learners of Additional Languages). She was awarded the title of Knight of the Order of Academic Palms 2023 by the Ministry of National Education and Youth.

The project

Title: Digitization, Emotional and Gender Analysis of Letters Written by Spanish Republican Refugees in France (1939–1940) for Spanish Language Instruction

"This project will adopt an interdisciplinary approach, involving the high-resolution digitization of the letters to preserve their original content and facilitate digital access. The transcription and semantic annotation of the letters will be carried out through faithful transcription and emotional tagging, identifying themes and emotions based on psychological models and gender theories. Emotion analysis will be based on a qualitative approach, inspired by theories of the 'emotional turn' in sociology and psychology, to interpret the emotions expressed in the letters. Regarding the intersection of emotion and gender, the project will analyze how gender norms influence emotional expression, using theoretical frameworks from gender studies. Finally, the teaching materials will be transformed into educational resources, such as guides and digital platforms, designed to teach about emotions, history, and gender."
