Le corps du genre
Luca Greco, a sociolinguist and specialist in gender studies, draws on a rich and composite body of analytical material, consisting of ethnographic surveys of eco-trans-feminist movements, the relationship between virility, nationalism and food, the status of the foetus in prenatal ultrasound scans and gender reveal parties, campaigns against abortion rights, and a corpus of interactions between transvestites and partners in online dating spaces.
The multiplicity of data and the rich semiotics considered in this book - linguistic, corporeal, technological, artefactual - allow a new conception of gender, ‘in excess’, transcending the boundaries of the human and of verbal language, through the prism of multi-material assemblages, human and non-human, whose stakes are analytical, theoretical and political.
Luca Greco is a professor of sociolinguistics at the University of Lorraine. His research focuses on the relationship between gender and language, multimodality in interaction and performance in art, the social sciences and everyday activities.
