Interdisciplinary Africa-World Network - RIAM

Africa in the World, and the World, as a World

This international network, successor of the RIAE (International Network Emergent Actors), created in 2000, wants to extend the program of exchanges and research dedicated these last years to the emergent actors. It focuses its attention on the dynamics and on the local, regional or global transformations which affect the African countries, by making both imperative and fertile the triple above mentioned posture, which places at the heart of the program, relations (tensions, reflections, complementarities, transversalities, etc.) between these countries and the World (in particular with Europe) and within the African continent.

The RIAM is a crossroads for researchers coming from diverse disciplines and diverse parts of the world – Sub-Saharan Africa, Maghreb, Europe, America and Asia – working on the contemporary stakes of the continent. It welcomes junior researchers, and wants to put in circulation knowledge and research findings, especially thanks to digital resources and through seminaries, workshops, round-tables and colloquiums.

Part of this program is ELITAF - Students and elites trained in URSS universities, aiming at reconstructing the history of the political and academic relations between the URSS/Russia, the former communist Central or Eastern European countries and the Maghreb or Sub-Saharian Africa, from their independences to the present day ; studying the specific experiences of different professional groups ; relating most often unknown biographical paths of former students and elites, after their academic education or training (political and/or professional futures, later mobilities, etc.).
