Access to rest

Winning project 2023 of the "Arts & SHS" call

The present research investigates access to rest, the creation of shelter, and spaces and times of intimacy in situations of homelessness or inadequate housing. Similar to access to water, hygiene, and healthcare, individuals in "precarious times" deploy "tactics," in the sense of Michel De Certeau, to fulfill basic needs by appropriating and transforming public spaces. This project examines access to rest and dreams for individuals without conventional housing (homeless individuals, nomadic workers, asylum seekers or those denied asylum, etc.) through public spaces, bodies, and imaginaries. Through a participatory and interdisciplinary approach, combining anthropology, sociology, architecturology, sound, and visual creation, the aim is to envision with them an inclusive and welcoming city, in the sense of an urbanity that is tolerant and permeable to individuals, whether they are residents or in transit.
