In tribute to its founder and first president, Herman Diederiks, the International Association for the History of Crime and Criminal Justice (now acting as the editorial board of the journal Crime, History & Societies/Crime, Histoire & Sociétés), with the support of the FMSH, awards a prize for an original article in the field of the history of crime and criminal justice written by an early-career scholar.
Conditions
Within the specified field, all topics are eligible. However, the article must be written either in French or in English and must never have been previously published. The winning article will be promptly published in the journal Crime, History & Societies/Crime, Histoire & Sociétés. In addition, the recipient will be awarded a €1,000 grant by Fondation Maison des Sciences de l’Homme, to be used for professional purposes.
Articles submitted must:
present original research combining new empirical findings with broader historiographical, methodological, and/or theoretical reflections;
open up new avenues of research or renew approaches within existing fields.
Application
Manuscripts must be submitted by the 30th of September of 2026 and accompanied by a short CV. They should be sent by email to the editorial team of Crime, History & Societies/Crime, Histoire & Sociétés (see below) and must comply with the journal’s standard guidelines for contributors.
