The "In the intimacy of research" conversation will bring together Valeria De Luca, author of Le Tango argentin. Gestes, formes, sens, lecturer in language sciences and semiotics at the University of Limoges, and Luca Greco, professor of linguistics at the University of Lorraine.

How would it be possible to "semiotize" dance? What would this operation of thought entail? What contribution could semiotics make to choreographic knowledge?

The book

The semiotic character of dance - its capacity to produce and stabilize specific configurations of meaning - has proved problematic in the structural tradition, both theoretically and methodologically. Yet, despite the ephemeral quality of the dancing gesture, the variety and attestation of its semiotic manifestations are beyond doubt. In this sense, Argentine tango is emblematic, as it unfolds on several levels of semiotic apprehension: the dancing body, social practices, institutions, cultural imaginaries and identities.
