Fête de la science

Through a visual and audio journey, this exhibition highlights research projects supported, published or distributed by the FMSH. Photos, projections and multimedia installations invite you to explore the oceans from a new angle, offering analyses and insights into contemporary issues linked to them, such as the governance of marine resources, the social dynamics of coastal communities, and the cultural and economic impacts of climate change.
In partnership with the Cité internationale des arts, we are pleased to present an artistic installation by Maxine Weiss, which questions the way in which the natural environment has become a major cultural construct in modern society.

Maxine Weiss's installation combines natural elements (seaweed, shells) with industrial materials (metal grids, tubes) to question the relationship between nature and culture. The grid, often used to organize and map the environment, becomes here a metaphor for systems of order, which the artist deconstructs in dialogue with organic forms. It also incorporates analogies between the animal and plant worlds, while illustrating water circulation systems. A message embroidered on an algae leaf underlines the interconnection of species, and a video shows the human impact on the oceans, criticizing the exploitation of marine resources. The work is part of the Postnatural Studies debate, which sees nature as a major cultural construct of modern society, and proposes an artistic cartography of post-human landscapes.
Maxine Weiss will be present on Thursday, 10 October, from 4:00 pm to 7:30 pm, to present her installation.
