Sociologist and economist, Saskia Sassen is a specialist in globalisation and the sociology of metropolises around the world. She is Professor of Sociology at the University of Colombia. She is notably known for her studies on globalisation and international migration. She developed the concept of global cities.
She is notably the author of Gli espulsi nell’economia globale (Reset, 2015); When Territory Exits Existing Frameworks (Harvard University Press, upcoming); Cities in a World Economy (4th ed, Sage, 2011); Territory, Authority, Rights: From Medieval to Global Assemblages (Princeton University Press, 2008); A Sociology of Globalization (W.W.Norton. 2007), and The Global City (2001, 2nd ed).
She regularly writes for the Guardian, the New York Times, Le Monde, and Newsweek International. She also collaborates on the sites www.OpenDemocracy.net and www.HuffingtonPost.com.
