Julie Lavielle holds a PhD in Political Science from Paris Nanterre University and is qualified to apply for associate professorships (maîtresse de conférences) in sections 04 and 19 of the French academic system. Her research focuses on memory politics in post-conflict peacebuilding contexts and on the social appropriation of museums and memorials addressing violent pasts. She has conducted several ethnographic field studies, first in Colombia and later in the Spanish Basque Country during her postdoctoral fellowship at the Casa de Velázquez.
In 2025, as part of the Atlas postdoctoral mobility fellowship (IFEA-FMSH), she is carrying out a research project on the role of the military in peacebuilding in Colombia. Her work explores the tensions and intersections between official narratives and personal recollections among former soldiers.
