Benito Schmidt is a historian and professor of historical theory and methodology at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil. He is the author of numerous works on the biographical genre, on the social history of memory, and on dictatorships in Latin America. His current research focuses on Brazilian and global LGBTQIA+ history, especially the "places of memory" associated with this group (museums, archives, monuments, etc.). He coordinates the "Close - Centro de Referência da História LGBTQIA+ do Rio Grande do Sul", a laboratory dedicated to research, teaching, documentation and dissemination of the LGBTQIA+ history of this Brazilian space.
