In this new episode of Histoires de mobilité, we are welcoming an Ethiopia specialist: Mehdi Labzaé.

During the autumn of 2020, Mehdi Labzaé was able to investigate his fieldwork in the northeast of the country thanks to an Atlas postdoctoral fellowship co-funded by the FMSH and the French Center for Ethiopian Studies in Addis Ababa. There, he observed the rise of the nationalist movement among the Amhara population. This movement, alongside the federal government, violently opposed the Tigrayan People's Liberation Front and its allies in the conflict tearing Ethiopia apart. The war surprised him in the middle of his stay, on the night of November 3 to 4, 2020. He is telling us about his investigations and research before, during and after the war.

Histoires de mobilité

The FMSH and its partners offer mobility grants for post-doctoral research stays in the humanities and social sciences. Every year, the Atlas programme enables researchers to spend 1 to 3 months in France or abroad conducting field research.

Histoires de mobilité is a podcast series in which researchers who have taken part in the programme share their international research experiences.
