Involving artists throughout the research process

Award-winning project of the 2024 "Arts & HSS" call - Research Residencies for Foreign Artists

Although digital health is a major issue in our societies, it remains obscure to many citizens. Its technical complexity and high level of abstraction make it difficult for non-experts to grasp and challenging even for experts to represent or conceptualize. This difficulty hampers the development of knowledge and practices within the field. What shared visual and material culture could foster multidisciplinary innovation in a domain that is both highly virtual and deeply rooted in the physical world and human bodies?

The residency seeks to address these challenges. It is based on the hypothesis that artistic interventions can help sensitize audiences to this emerging field and the tensions within it. The idea is to involve invited artists in the entire research process, from fieldwork to data analysis and the construction of outcomes. The residency is part of the "One Health" initiative at ISNS, which recognizes that protecting human health is intrinsically linked to animal and environmental health.
