Conference by Geoffrey Pleyers, professor at Université catholique de Louvain and head of the research program Social Movements in the Global Age.

Since October 18, Chile has been shaken up by a citizen revolt of unprecedented scale since the return of democracy. The government responded with police repression, but also paved the way for a process for a new constitution to replace the one inherited from the Pinochet dictatorship. In addition to the political analyzes and the impact of the movement on institutions and parties, this talk will focus on the subjective dimensions of the movement, the way it is experienced by some of its participants, the revolt they express in the interviews and in the artistic works and the way they have been transformed by a movement that invites to rethink what it means to be Chilean in the 21st century.
