Discover the first session of the 2023-2024 Americanist Anthropology Seminar: Preventive mobility and escape: The unrooted relationship to territory in the equatorial lowlands

The session will take as its starting point the ways of being, settling and moving around the territory that define a number of Amerindian societies traditionally described as semi-nomadic, addressing in particular so-called preventive and escape mobilities. Taking into account mythical narratives, collective actions to resolve everyday crises and current responses to health and environmental challenges, the session, which will be based on the ethnography of the Tsachila indigenous society of Ecuador, will seek to rethink the classificatory categories of Americanist ethnology, and in particular what we are to understand by a dynamic relationship with territory.
