Ethics Matters in Financial Theory
Ethics Matters
Not so long ago academic discussions of ethical matters were confined to the logic of the language of morals and the meaning of ethical statements. Events in this strand will put contemporary thinking in ethics to the test, and explore its practical relevance
Christian Walter, Associate Professor of Finance, University Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and Ethics and Finance Chair, Collège d'études mondiales, Fondation Maison des sciences de l'homme
Jean-Pierre Zigrand, Associate Professor of Finance, LSE and Director of the Systemic Risk Centre, LSE
Chair: Alex Voorhoeve, Associate Professor, Department of Philosophy, Logic and Scientific Method, LSE
Is financial management a question of mathematics or a question of ethics? Are the tools of financial modelling ethically neutral? Christian Walter will argue that in the context of finance any preference in mathematics is also a preference in ethics and will discuss his ideas with financial economist Jean- Pierre Zigrand and philosopher Alex Voorhoeve.
