Speaker: Ran Tao

Ran TAO is a professor in School of Economics and the Vice Dean of Hanqing School of Economics and Finance, at Renmin University of China based at Beijing. Ran Tao has been the Director of China Center for Public Economics and Governance of this university. He is also non-resident senior fellow of Brookings Institution and since 2013 he serves as the Acting director of Tsinghua-Brookings Center. He graduated from Peking University and the University of Chicago in 2002 with a PhD in economics. He was Shaw Research Fellow of Chinese Economy, Institute of Chinese Studies, the University of Oxford. As a specialist on Chinese economy, he has published over 40 articles on international economics, political science and sociological journals and over 50 articles on Chinese important social science journals. He is responsible for several major national and international research projects on the Chinese economy. His research topics range from the political economy of China’s economic transition, land and household registration reform in China’s urbanization to local governance and public finance in China.
