The French model of cultural policy in question: ethno-cultural diversity and multiculturalism in the arts and the media
The second edition of the Summer University of Social Sciences at Sorbonne University Paris Cité will be held from 18 to 22 September
The second edition of the Summer University of Social Sciences at Sorbonne University Paris Cité will examine the place given to cultural diversity in arts and media in France and Europe.
The social responsibility of the arts and the policies of culture, through notions of national or community identity, minority representation, cultural democracy and cultural rights, is the subject of a growing body of research and debates that go far beyond the academic community. As a transdisciplinary subject, the question of cultural diversity is also transnational and various foreign speakers will testify to their experience in this field. At a time when, in France as in many countries, the tendency is the nationalist withdrawal and the tensions of identity, where "multiculturalism" is - for good and bad reasons - decried, openness, tolerance, acceptance must be promoted. Cultural diversity, while raising a number of issues and problems, can also be considered as a set of opportunities for our countries.
