Biography

Ana Paula Cavalcanti Simioni is a professor at the Brazilian Studies Institute at the University of São Paulo. In 2004 she obtained a Doctorate in Sociology from the University of São Paulo and in 2002 a Sandwich Doctorate at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales in Paris. She is Post-Doctoral in History of Art at the Ecole Normale Supérieure (2016-17). She is also an associate researcher at EFISAL-CRAL (EHESS - Paris) and collaborator of the program "Aesthetics and history of art" (MAC-USP). In 2013, she was a visiting professor at the Instituto de Estetica y Historia del Arte - UNAM (Mexico) and in 2016 she was a visiting professor at the Ecole Normale Supérieure de Paris (LABEX-ARTLAS). These studies focus on the sociology of art, especially on the relationship between art and gender; Academicism and Brazilian modernism. She was curator of the exhibition "Women artists: the pioneers (1880-1930)" in 2015 at the Pinacoteca do Estado in São Paulo.
